{"id":1251,"date":"2013-02-14T20:49:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-15T01:49:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.angelashornstudio.com\/blog\/?p=1251"},"modified":"2013-02-14T20:49:41","modified_gmt":"2013-02-15T01:49:41","slug":"valentines-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.angelashornstudio.com\/blog\/?p=1251","title":{"rendered":"Valentine&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1252\" alt=\"CandleOfLove\" src=\"http:\/\/www.angelashornstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CandleOfLove-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.angelashornstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CandleOfLove-300x199.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.angelashornstudio.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/CandleOfLove.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Today we celebrate love.\u00a0 Most often, we celebrate romantic love.\u00a0 I am a girl who loves chocolate and flowers and sweet cards just as much as the next girl, but I also like to think of Valentine\u2019s Day as a day for celebrating passion, the fire inside us that makes our tickers tick.<\/p>\n<p>Though musicians are often seen as quite passionate people (something I do not dispute), musicians must, out of necessity, spend a good deal of time thinking about technique.\u00a0 There are certain periods of time when technique may even be the main focus.\u00a0 You can have an abundance of music itching to pour out of your soul, but if you don\u2019t have the means to communicate it, then the music will remain locked inside.<\/p>\n<p>Even after the the music school years, technique remains an important focus, though perhaps at some point it\u2019s more like oiling the moving parts and doing a minor repair here and there than it is the building of the engine that happened earlier in life.<\/p>\n<p>I was recently having it out with a technical problem in the practice room.\u00a0 Frustration abounded, and I wallowed in it for awhile.\u00a0 Then I put down my horn and &#8211; I don\u2019t know why &#8211;\u00a0 pulled up an old recording I had of the piece I was working on. \u00a0The hornist playing absolutely sang through the horn.\u00a0 \u201cOh, wait,\u201d I said.\u00a0 \u201cThis is <i>music<\/i>.\u201d\u00a0 It was inspiring. It was a story. \u00a0It did NOT sound like the torture device I had been experiencing. \u00a0It was beautiful.
