There are so many wonderful and helpful books out there. \u00a0Many of them I will talk about in my blog over time. \u00a0But in the meantime, here’s a very<\/strong> short list of\u00a0some of my favorite, well-worn companions on the bookshelf in my studio:<\/p>\n

The Art of French Horn Playing<\/strong><\/em>, Philip Farkas<\/strong> – This book is a “must-have” if you are a horn player. \u00a0Have a question about horn playing? \u00a0You can likely find the answer here! \u00a0It is also contains some of the best (and most standard) warm-ups and exercises for the horn.<\/p>\n

Thoughts on Playing the Horn Well<\/em>, Fr\u00f8ydis Ree Wekre <\/strong>– This is another wonderful book that, like the Farkas book, touches on every aspect of horn playing. \u00a0One of my favorite sections of this book is called “Thoughts on being your own teacher” where she touches on ideas of how you can guide yourself in constructive ways in the practice room.<\/p>\n

The Horn Handbook<\/em>, Verne Reynolds<\/strong> – This is a great guide to the staple horn repertoire. \u00a0Mr. Reynolds goes through all of our major pieces and etudes and points out the major points of focus. \u00a0His first chapter on practicing is also invaluable.<\/p>\n

Collected Thoughts on Teaching and Learning, Creativity, and Horn Performance<\/em>, Douglas Hill<\/strong> – This is a very thoughtful book on all aspects of horn playing. \u00a0He provides a very-nearly exhaustive list of horn repertoire, a chapter on extended techniques, a chapter on hand horn, and a list of books he loves. \u00a0A great addition to your horn library!<\/p>\n

The Inner Game of Tennis<\/em>, W. Timothy Gallwey<\/strong> – A book about tennis, you ask? \u00a0Well, maybe, but it is so much more than that. \u00a0You will find a wealth of information to help you practice better, to concentrate, and to free yourself up to do your best work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
